Well known as one of the Southern Lakes most opulent retreats, Mahu Whenua is an eco-lodge spanning 193 square miles of protected land.
Just 20 minutes from central Wanaka, the property houses four adjoining high country sheep stations and hosts incredible views of the surrounding alpine scenery, valleys and rivers – the perfect scene for a relaxing vacation with someone special.
According to the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand, Mahu Whenua is Maori for ‘healing the land’, and so keeps its focus on conservation through sustainable farming practices and an extensive plant regeneration and bird breeding program.
With more than 90 percent of the land protected by covenants, you can stay on the largest conservation undertaking on private land in New Zealand’s history, and play your part in keeping this beautiful place so pristine.
Located near Wanaka in the Southern Lakes area of New Zealand’s South Island, Mahu Whenua sits within an exquisite landscape of mountains, lakes and rivers spanning as far as the eye can see. You’re in the perfect place to relax and unwind on what’s virtually your own private national park, and it's surprisingly easy to get to despite the endless space that surrounds.
You can travel to Mahu Whenua by way of a 20-minute drive from central Wanaka, a 90-minute drive from Queenstown or a 10-minute helicopter flight from Queenstown. Upon arrival you’ll experience what it’s like to stay at an unforgettable eco-sanctuary, and begin booking your return trip back before you know it.
Mahu Whenua has four luxurious Ridgeline Suites, each offering guests incredible views and plenty of privacy. Ridgeline Suites
Four luxurious Ridgeline Suites offer incredible views and supreme privacy: the Tui Suite, Kereru Suite and two Cottage Suites. Each feature a king bed, separate shower and bath, Wi-Fi, television and a telephone, however three of the four are distinctly defined by their own individual décor. The Tui suite is mostly made of stone with a freestanding tub set before a large, picture window, while The Kereru Suite features wooden elements with a daybed and a couch. The two Cottage Suites face out from one side of the lodge and are similar in décor, with a small kitchen, dining table and views of vast rolling hills.
