A beautifully-designed home set in the sunny Hawke’s Bay wine region, Breckenridge Lodge is a unique gourmet retreat.
Run by renowned chef Malcolm Redmond and his wife, Ellie Zugel, a stay here calls for delicious meals made from the finest local ingredients, delicious wines from the region’s best vineyards and incomparable views that are more than worthy of a toast.
With just five rooms, Breckenridge Lodge is a perfectly intimate retreat.
Learn cooking tips from Malcolm himself in a class, peruse two acres of land that are dedicated to the gardens, or spot some of the 30 native bird species flourishing on the property.
Most importantly, make sure you sit back and relax – some of the lodge’s own lavender can even help with the latter.
Nestled warmly within gardens and a vineyard, Breckenridge Lodge can be found on the lower eastern side of New Zealand’s North Island. The area, known as Hawke’s Bay, produces some of the very best wines and has a rich Maori culture dating back to the 9th century AD.
To get to Breckenridge Lodge, you can drive from Taupo in the north or Wellington in the south following State Highway 2. Once you arrive in Omaranui Valley in the area of Taradale, Napier, simply look for a blue sign saying ‘To Breckenridge.’ Taking a few turns and eventually driving up a hill, you’ll find Breckenridge Lodge and the beautiful vineyards beyond.
A five-star stay within stunning Hawke’s Bay, Breckenridge Lodge has five private guest rooms with views of the vineyards. Each equipped with air conditioning and its own private bathroom, you can choose to stay in and relax or venture out to explore the property – both are, in our opinion, a fantastic way to spend your time.
The guest dining room has a relaxed and inviting feel, serving as the ideal spot to enjoy Malcom’s superbly-crafted meals. Taking to the guest lounge, you can step out of French doors to the patio and get a closer look at the grounds. In the fall and winter months, there’s a wonderful open fire to sit by and warm yourself while you relax.
Guest Rooms
The five guest rooms at Breckenridge Lodge have been designed and decorated to suit their name, be it the notes of lilac in the Lavender Room or smooth and dark wooden pieces in the Chocolate. All rooms have a large, comfortable bed and bathroom, as well as stow-away luggage racks, a wardrobe and views of the gardens or vineyard. One bedroom on the lower floor is accessible for those with mobility issues.
