Viti Levu INTRODUCTION
The largest island in Fiji and the hub of the archipelago, Viti Levu is the first place you'll see on arrival to Fiji.
Home to the capital city, Suva, Nadi International Airport and Denarau Marina, it’s a launching point for getting to the Mamanucas or Yasawas, each approximately 20-50 miles off the mainland.
Should you wish to stay on Viti Levu there are myriad options available, from resorts on the Suncoast, Coral Coast or Pacific Harbour to those lining the beaches of Denarau. The center of Viti Levu is largely forested mountains and it’s in the Ba Highlands that you’ll find the last authentic traditional Fijian village.
Navala is home to approximately 1000 people, with around 100 traditionally-thatched bures built of local materials along the banks of the Ba River.
Pay a visit to understand the local way of life – just be sure to ask for the turaga-ni-koro (the chief-appointed headman) to pay an entrance fee on arrival.
