Uluru (Ayers Rock) INTRODUCTION
Widely hailed as the spiritual heart of Australia, Uluru (or by its European name, Ayers Rock) holds cultural significance for the Anangu people, and special experiences for tourists.
A monolithic 348-meter high mountain, it dominates the flat, red earth that surrounds it and changes color — from ochre to burnt orange and intense red — as the day goes on. Naturally, most travelers to Australia wish to witness such a special place, and it’s best to do so either at sunrise or sunset, before or after the heat of the day.
Take a walk with a traditional landowner to circumnavigate the 9.4km base, join a camel tour or dine under a canopy of stars.
This last option will result in the best views you’ve ever had with your meal, and the food itself will be equally extravagant.
